Like many prospective healthcare professionals, finding a rewarding career path is often complicated and stressful. The journey to a rewarding and successful career was no different for Kay Milledge, RPSGT; she had various areas of interest while exploring career options in a small city in Georgia. After earning the coveted high school diploma, she explored careers, including Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene, which complimented her passions and diverse interests. Ms. Milledge often expresses that life has a way of changing plans for even a careful planner, and one is often guided to take a different direction despite efforts to stay the course. Retail management was an unforeseen course for Ms. Milledge, but rewarding. After multiple promotions, while serving in top managerial positions of major retail organizations for more than ten years, she was inspired to commit to pursuing a career in healthcare. Ms. Milledge enrolled in the Polysomnographic Technology A.S. program at Albany State University in Albany, GA (formerly Darton State College). After graduation, she began her career as a polysomnographic technologist at Tift Regional Medical System (TRMS).
Sleep medicine is a growing industry, and technologists are required to continuously expand their skills and expertise to remain competitive in this rapidly flourishing area of medicine. Consequently, to remain the most current in her role at TRMS, Ms. Milledge earned the prestigious credential Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and served as a lead technologist and preceptor. She is currently pursuing a B.S. in Neurodiagnostics and Sleep Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She serves as Sleep Technologist Manager for National Sleep Solutions in Columbus, GA. In 2020, Ms. Milledge was appointed Program Director of the National School of Sleep Medicine and acts in the capacity of the program’s Technical Director. For Ms. Milledge, teaching, sharing knowledge and helping people have always been a passion. She considers bringing these passions together, as she has done in her career, to be an ideal professional and personal experience. This sentiment she hopes each graduate of the National School of Sleep Medicine will come to realize from their own potential.
